Laura Robson wins her first WTA Tour match since 2013 by beating Ghita Benhadi

Great Britain's Laura Robson beat Moroccan Ghita Benhadi at the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Rabat to record a first WTA Tour victory since 2013.

The 22-year-old had endured a frustrating comeback from wrist surgery two years ago, winning just three matches all year in qualifying rounds.

However, Robson returned to form in the main draw on the clay against the local 18-year-old wild card, producing six service breaks as she came through 6-1, 6-1 in 51 minutes and will next meet Hungarian Timea Babos, the fifth seed, in round two.

The former British No 1 is now down to 426 in the world following her injury lay-off but, under the protected WTA ranking of 58, has secured automatic entry into next month's French Open at Roland Garros.

Robson lost first-round matches in Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston this year.
She beat world No 117 Klara Koukalova in Stuttgart last week but failed to qualify for the main competition.
