Wawrinka defeats Djokovic to win 2016 US Open

Stan Wawrinka on Sunday night, beat Novak Djokovic to win the US Open final.
The No 3 seed won the third Grand Slam of his career, with a 6-7 6-4 7-5 6-3 win at Flushing Meadows.

Serena passes Navratilova’s Grand Slam record


World number one Serena Williams powered to a record 307th Grand Slam match win with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Sweden’s Johanna Larsson to reach the US Open’s fourth round.
The American moved ahead of Martina Navratilova for most match wins in a major by a woman, and tied Roger Federer’s mark for men.

Novak Djokovic has admitted to battling with personal and private issues during the Wimbledon, which could have been one of the reasons for his shock exit at tennis' premier tournament. The Serbian star, who was the favourite coming into the tournament, was shocked by American Sam Querrey in the third round at SW 19.

Rio Olympics: Venus Williams Crashes Out In First Round


Venus Williams has played in five Olympic singles tournament. Unfortunately, this will be the first time she didn’t make it past the first round.

The 36-year-old was close to winning the match against Kirsten Flipkens, but she kept losing her edge. The match, which lasted for three hours, saw Venus Williams lose 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

Afterward, Williams did not speak to reporters. Instead, U.S. women’s tennis coach Mary Joe Fernandez did, saying that Williams was sick before arriving in Brazil. Fernandez added that Williams had cramping, dehydration and an upset stomach after her loss, but still hoped to play doubles Sunday with younger sister Serena.

Murray defeats Raonic to win Wimbledon Open again

Andy Murray saw off Milos Raonic in straight sets on Sunday, to claim his second Wimbledon title.

The Brit, who was not facing either Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer for the first time in a Grand Slam final, triumphed 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2).

Serena loses $380,000 to Brexit


Serena Williams will go home with less Wimbledon prize money this year as a result of Brexit, according to reports.

The world number one has lost out on an estimated $380,000 (£293,000) due to the value of the pound falling following the UK’s decision to leave the EU.

Saturday, with the news of Novak Djokovic’s shock defeat buzzing overhead.

Murray beat Millman 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, after the world number 67 put up some stern resistance on Centre Court.

Victoria Azarenka Ruled Out Of Wimbledon


Two-time grand slam champion Victoria Azarenka has been ruled out of Wimbledon with a knee injury.
The 26-year-old was seeded sixth for the tournament which begins on Monday.
The two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist has not played since retiring from her first-round match against Italian Karin Knapp at last month’s French Open.

Serena Williams named highest-paid sportswoman


Serena William has overtaken Maria Sharapova as the highest-paid sportswoman in the world according to Forbes.

The American tennis star, who lost to Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final last weekend, banked $28.9 million over the past 12 months.

Williams has dominated her sport for more than a decade, but Sharapova was adjudged to be the biggest earner, thanks to her endorsements with Nike, American Express, Porsche and TAG Heuer.

Nadal pulls out of French Open



Rafa Nadal has pulled out of the French Open, because of a wrist injury.

The Spaniard, who was looking to win an unprecedented 10th title at Roland Garros, said: “I have a problem with my wrist that I had for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I played with an injection, I could play but yesterday night I started to feel more and more pain and today I felt I could not move my wrist.

PARIS (AP) — Two rounds of French Open tennis haven't come close to turning Marco Trungelliti into a millionaire.

But even after taxes, the $67,000 the Argentine earned this week in prize money for one win and one loss should cover much of his costs for the rest of the year, including travel to other tournaments and paying his coach.
