Speaking with Independent in Lagos on Monday, Akele, lamented that while President Buhari had said he would discourage medical tourism, he was the one embarking on it, stressing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government found it difficult to obey its own rules.
Akele stated: “The president has said he has to discourage foreign trips for medical problems. So, he is the one breaking his own rules. This shows that the APC does not obey its rules. It also shows the level of decay in the nation. ”
Akele wondered how many Nigerians could afford foreign medical treatment, even as he wondered what the government was doing with the huge amount of money budgeted for Aso Rock, if the president could not treat his ear at the Aso Rock Clinic.
He said: “So many things are wrong with the nation. What is the fate of Nigerians who cannot afford to travel? What is the state of the Nigerian health sector? His treatment is important to him when so many Nigerians arte begging for attention.
But the health services are in comatose and unaffordable, especially when things are so difficult economically.” He wondered when Nigerians would begin to enjoy the Buhari government for their basic necessities of life, even as maintained that the people had not been demanding a lot from this government, but affordable housing, light, affordable health facilities, stressing that many were being killed along the roads because the roads are bad.
“But those in government take care of themselves when Nigerians are wallowing in poverty and insecurity is starring the people at the face, Fulani herdsmen slaughtering the people while security men continue to kill people in South East and the Niger Delta.
I believe the language of democracy is dialogue,” he added. Akele urged on President Buhari to sit down at thome and develop the nation’s medical facilities for the benefit of all Nigerians, and not to travel abroad or to UK for himself and his family at the expense of the people.
“Now, the budget has been approved, yet nothing is happening. He should sit at home and think of how to revitalise all sectors. Basic things like water are not available in any higher institution and this can affect the health of students. “I feel concerned about the president being sick. But many Nigerians are also dying and the president is doing nothing about them. I feel worried, very worried,” Akele added
