After installing windows 7 or any other version of windows, it runs for few months, then you start getting error message "windows not genuine" . It is very annoying because when this message start showing, your desktop customization goes including your wallpaper and no matter the number of times you replace the blank background wallpaper, its goes back to blank after each restart.
This post covers easiest method to fix this error without losing your files or have to reload your operating system.
Follow the simple steps below:
1. Click on start menu.
2.Type cmd in search field.
3.Right click on cmd file and click on Run as Administrator.It is must to run command prompt with administrator privileges.
4. Type SLMGR -REARM (SLMGR is Windows
software licensing management tool. REARM command will reset the
licensing status of machine) and press enter.
Note: If you see same error message, then type SLMGR /REARM and press enter
(Command SLMGR -REARM works for Windows
32 bit version. It even work for windows 64 bit version. Some times this
command will not work for Windows 64 bit version. Then only try SLMGR
/REARM instead SLMGR -REARM.)
5. Now you will see a confirmation window, click on OK.
6. Restart your PC.
After this procedure, you might be left with a blank background. you can easily change with any picture of your choice.
Challenges
You might get below any of the two errors below. I have given solutions for those errors.
Error 1
“Error 0xc004d307 : The maximum allowed number of rearms has been exceeded” after entering command.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/SoftwareProtectionPlatform
- Press “Windows + R” you will see Run dialog. Or Go to Start, click Run.
- Type “Regedit”. Click Ok. You will see Registry editor window.
- Double click “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”.
- Double click “SOFTWARE”.
- Double click “Microsoft”.
- Double click “Windows NT”.
- Double click “CurrentVersion”.
- Now click on the word “SoftwareProtectionPlatform” not on arrow mark.
- Right click on “SkipRearm” in the right window.
- Click on “Modify”. Change “Value Data” to “1”.
- Restart PC.
Error 2
“slmgr is not recogized as an internal or external command” after entering command.
Solution : Make sure there is a space between “SLMGR” and “-REARM”.
-- Reason : You might not opened Command Prompt as Administrator.
Right click on “CMD” and select “Run as Administrator”.
-- Try “SLMGR /REARM” instead “SLMGR -REARM”.
-- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
type cd \ and press enter.
type cd windows\system32 and press enter.
Now you will see C:\windows\system32>. Now use command like this C:\windows\system32>SLMGR -REARM
-- Reason : slmgr.vbs file might have any other extension.
Go to My computer
Go to “C” drive.
Select folder “Windows”.
Select folder “System32”.
Scroll down until “slmgr.vbs.REMOVEWAT”. Right click on it and rename it to “slmgr.vbs”. If you don’t find “REMOVEWAT” extension, remove any other extension at the end of slmgr.vbs.

EXTRA TIP
Uninstall the update which was detecting your windows.
Follow the below steps to uninstall windows update.
1. Open control panel.
2. Go to windows update section.
3. Click on view installed updates.
4. After loading all installed updates, check for update “KB971033” and uninstall.
Switch off windows automatic update.
1. Open control panel.
2. Go to windows update.
3. Click on “Install updates automatically(Recommended)”.
4. Select “never check for updates(Not recommended)”
5. Restart your PC.
If you are getting problems, then download, re install windows 7 and follow above steps. Then you will never get “this copy of windows in not genuine” error.
