University of Ibadan has been shut down after a two day protest of students over the suspension of a 500 level union leader. The students also protested the lack of some amenities needed on the campus.
Lectures were disrupted as protesting students used canes to chase their colleagues out of lecture halls.
Staff and other visitors were also denied access into the university.
Professor Abel Olayinka who is the Vice Chancellor of the university said the decision to close down the school immediately and indefinitely was occasioned by the violent protest which was becoming ‘life threatening’.
All students were directed to vacate the school premises by 4pm as at yesterday.
