60-yr-old student in JSS II gets scholarship

BOMADI- IJAW  community in the United States of America, USA, under the umbrella of Ijaw Brothers in USA has finally fulfilled its pledge to shoulder the tuition fees of 60-year- old Junior Secondary School, JSS II student of Izon College, Bomadi-Overside, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr Adelabu Seribo.

The group paid his tuition fees for JSS II and III, covering two academic session as well as his textbooks for the period. Mr Seribo’s educational pursuit in Izon College generated attention when Niger Delta Voice visited the school and published his laudable educational pursuit.

Presenting cheques for Seribo’s tuition fees and text books    to the principal of Izon College at the school premises in Bomadi-Overside, a representative of Ijaw Brothers, USA,    Mr Eden Ogula, said the Ijaw brotherhood in the USA was impressed by Seribo’s decision to acquire education even at an advanced age.

He urged the younger generation in the riverine enclave to be more dedicated on issues regarding education, noting the gesture was an incentive to encourage Mr Seribo to achieve his aim.

First time in Ijaw land-Mr. Bakpor

receiving the cheques, the principal of Izon College, Mr Samson A. Bakpor, said: “This is the first time in history in Ijawland where a group of Izon indigenes living in foreign land came to help their brother like this.”

“Their intervention in Seribo’s educational pursuit has also promoted Izon College to a level. We are very grateful and our main challenge as a school is to acquire a considerable land to build a permanent site to make the school has its pride of place in Ijawland,” he said.

On his part, Mr. Seribo said:    “I’m very happy today and I give thanks to God that this thing has come to reality. I have been fasting and praying since the first day these people sent somebody to the school to see me.”

“I thank my brothers in America for what they have done for me and God will continue to bless them. I also want to thank Vanguard newspaper for bringing me to limelight in my decision to pursue education at this age. I pray God to bless you (the reporter) as well.”
