Manchester United have rewarded young defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson with a new contract for his breakthrough season at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old defender, who made his debut against West Brom in November, has been rewarded with a new four-year deal by Louis van Gaal.
Borthwick-Jackson’s current deal had been due to run out on June 30 and, with the opening of the summer transfer window looming, United officials acted swiftly to tie him down to a long-term contract, according to the Mirror.
Alongside his first team duties, Borthwick-Jackson played a key role in Warren Joyce’s title-winning Under-21s team and picked up United’s Under-21 Player of the Year award earlier this month.
‘It’s just a huge honour for me, winning this award,’ he said after picking up the accolade.
‘It’s unbelievable, it’s what dreams are made of,’ he added. ‘It’s what you dream of as a little boy — winning an award with Manchester United.’
